And no, we’re not talking about the American version of football, we’re talking about soccer!
The World Cup began this week in Russia, and it was announced earlier this week that North America would host the 2026 World Cup, with games being played in Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
It might come as a surprise to some, but soccer is quickly gaining in popularity in The Villages.
On the youth soccer side, there’s The Villages Soccer Club (The Villages SC), which is a Premier Development League (PDL) soccer club based here in The Villages.
The PDL features 74 franchises in four conferences throughout the US and Canada, and it is considered an important stepping-stone for top professionals now playing throughout the world.
On the senior soccer side, The Villages Senior Soccer group meets twice a week at The Villages Polo Club, where both men and women practice on Tuesdays and play in games on Thursdays.
