As a former college tennis player, it hurts me to say it, but I’ve always called tennis the red-headed stepchild of The Villages.
Maybe that sounds a bit harsh, but tennis has always taken a backseat here in The Villages to golf…and pickleball…and softball…you get the idea.
Now Villages officials are on a “mini-mission” to change that and among their first steps is to put together The Villages inaugural Tennis Expo, which took place Saturday, October 28 at Glenview Champions Tennis Club.
The Golf Expo has been going on for years and has always been a big hit with residents, and now tennis finally gets its due.
The Villages didn’t hold anything back either, bringing in legendary coach Nick Bollettieri, Old Saint Nick, as he is affectionately called by some fans, for a series of clinics throughout the day.
In other news…
Red Fox, Gray Fox, Blue Fox, New Fox
Ok…this isn’t a Dr. Seuss book and only the first two foxes in that series actually exist.
Of course Red Fox and Gray Fox are the newest additions to the executive golf course lineup here in The Villages and they opened this week.
With the addition of these two new courses, the total number holes of golf here in The Villages now stands at 648.
